Napa County fire just outside of American Canyon
Wildfires whipped by powerful winds swept through Northern California, sending residents on a headlong flight to safety through smoke and flames as homes burned.

In neighboring Napa County, firefighters were battling the Tubbs Fire, which has burned 20,000 acres. and the Atlas Fire, which had burned 5,000 acres.
Early Monday morning, the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department said fires had also erupted in Santa Rosa, Windsor and Sebastopol.
"The winds have just been outrageous here tonight, and essentially we are in a mode of saving people's lives and getting people out of harm's way at the moment", Cal Fire Battalion Chief Jonathan Cox said. The Anaheim Fire Department said the burst was being pushed by 25 miles per hour winds.
A smoke advisory has been issued for San Francisco, telling residents to "close windows and limit outdoor activities".
Officials said Sonoma County emergency dispatchers were being "overwhelmed by 911 calls" from residents smelling smoke, adding, "Please only call 911 if you see actual unattended flames".
