A security guard in a nursery in Jana├║ba, Brazil, threw gasoline on children and himself and set the fuel on fire, resulting in the death of five toddlers.

Following this, the security guard died after succumbing to his own burn injuries.

At least four children were killed and several others were injured Thursday after a man set fire to a day care center in southeastern Brazil, CNN reported.

News portal G1, citing police sources, said a teacher had also died in the fire. The mayor of Janauba has declared seven days of mourning.

A total of about fifty people were hospitalized due to injuries, 10 remained hospitalized in life-threatening conditions, said Bruno Ataide Santos, director of the hospital. Some 40 people were taken to local hospitals. Nelson de Jesus Silva, the father of one victim, told Globonews TV: "My little girl was so good, so smart".
