Apple says that issue will be corrected in a future update, but at this point, they could already be headed down the same road as Samsung.
The phones crack open without any signs of scorching or explosion. In another case, a woman in Taiwan said that her device split open after she charged it with the included cable and wall adapter. Based on the images in circulation (via ), the front screen was bent, and the device was non-functional. An Apple spokesperson said the company is looking into the matter and declined to comment further but so far we have yet to see any development from the tech giant's side as to why this is happening.
According to the publication, the smartphone has been three days after the purchase before stepping down. Similarly, when the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus came out there were issues with individual devices. Though the cause is unconfirmed for now, it is believed that swelling of the battery is forcing the handset to split open. Due to the minute tolerances of phones, it only takes a small increase in the size of the component to cause the iPhone to separate. "In the Galaxy Note case, there were probably a couple hundred battery failures of one sort or another, but there were only a handful of fires - so that gives you a sense of the proportion of actual fires".
Now, the newest kid on the iPhone block faces an even larger design flaw called, "splitgate". The issue might be brushed under the carpet just like the iPhone 6 Plus bend gate or Apple may resolve and put out fresh versions of iPhone 8 Plus which do not have such issue. Further, Apple also did not provide the first weekend sales number of the handsets, which went on sale on September 22, as it has done with the new iPhones before. Pre-orders for iPhone X begin October 27, and the phone will be available in stores on November 3.
