'Super Mario Run' update breathes life into Nintendo's mobile plans

Nintendo has never made it secret that it planned on adding new playable characters to Super Mario Run, and on September 29th, a new character will finally join the game. Although it was successful in its first few months compared to many mobile games, it didn't become a major contributor to Nintendo's bottom line.
The update will also add a whole new world, called World Star. Already the app allows gamers to run through obstacle-course adaptations of stages in the "Mario" franchise as Super Mario himself, his brother Luigi, Princess Peach, Toad, Toadette and Yoshi (who gets several color variations). The new levels contain new enemies.
The character in question is Daisy, which puts her as the seventh playable character in the roster, and the new world is called World Star. Rewards earned while running and clearing Remix 10 include Rainbow Medals and various new items with which to decorate the Mushroom Kingdom game hub.
The new gameplay mode for "Super Mario Run" is the "Remix 10". If you do, your character will be wearing headphones.
The game will also be able to be played and will allow users to listen to their own music; the amusing thing is that even the character you play will have headphones on to show you that he's listening to your music instead of the game themes. You'll first have to completely finish worlds 1 through 6. On that day up to October 12, Nintendo will celebrate its release with a 50 percent discount on the price of the game.
Coinciding with Friday's update, Nintendo will also drop the price of Super Mario Run for a limited time.
It's a big update and price cut, and one that must have undoubtedly been in the works, as it seems a quick pivot to offering additional content almost a year out after the game's release on December 15, 2016.
