Netflix's 'Narcos' Producer Murdered in Mexico

Veteran TV and movie location manager Carlos Munoz Portal was reportedly shot and killed in Mexico while scouting for season 4 of Narcos, the Netflix show about drug cartels.

The 37-year-old 's body was found riddled with gunshot wounds in a vehicle in a remote area near the borders of Hidalgo state, El País de España reported in Spanish.

The show 's season 4, is scheduled to be following Mexico's Juarez cartel.

Mr Portal is reported to have been killed on Monday, but the news of his death only broke last night (SAT). The newspaper added that there are fears that Netflix will shoot the series somewhere other than Mexico because of the violence.

The network added that circumstances surrounding the death remain unclear. It is not known why, but Carlos' body was found hours later in the compact auto with several shots. That entity, the most populated of the country, is the one that has more homicides.

His resume includes Mel Gibson's Apocalypto and Specter, the latest James Bond film that begins in the Mexico city of Zocalo. Authorities are reportedly having trouble piecing together what happened leading up the Portal's death, and police are still investigating.

Netflix issued a brief statement in light of Munoz's murder: "We are aware of the passing of Carlos Munoz Portal, a well-respected scout, and send our condolences to his family".
