Parma resident tests positive for West Nile virus

The state's first human cases of West Nile Virus this year have been confirmed in lower MI. "This year we have four suspect cases", said John Hausbeck, environmental health supervisor.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 14 cases statewide as of Wednesday, but the two Lake County cases are not included in that total.

The ages of the victims was not released. Both were diagnosed with neurologic disease.

"People may feel, with the end of summer approaching, that the risk of being bitten by mosquitoes is reduced", said Dr. Charles Gardener, Medical Officer of Health for the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit. Again he advised that people can freely get engaged in outdoor activities but they should ensure that they take necessary precautionary measures to avoid any mosquito bite, for example, keeping an insect repellent with them. In 2002, the state documented its first human infections and 52 cases were reported that year. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, up to 80 percent of people infected with West Nile show no symptoms.

The statement added that, to date, 52 pools or batches of mosquitoes and one bird have tested positive for West Nile virus in 2017. As a result, the municipality has been larviciding storm water catch basins for many years to reduce mosquito populations and provide extra protection for the public. "The mosquito species that was found is not a biting mosquito, but there are still people out there who could be hurt by West Nile".

Osaka would close the match out with a break of serve in the seventh game, pushing through in just one hour and four minutes. The last defending women's champion to lose in the first round in NY was Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova in 2005.

Most people who become infected with WNV will not develop any symptoms of illness.

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development reports that eight horses have tested positive for West Nile and one horse has tested for Eastern Equine encephalitis, another mosquito-borne disease.

West Nile is spread when an infected mosquito bites.
