Sharif had resigned from the Prime Minister's office following disqualification by the Supreme Court in the Panamagate verdict.

Kulsoom Nawaz is however, not expected to replace Shahid Khaqan Abbasi as the PM who was elected this month after Sharif's ouster.

The polling for the election will be held on September 17.

The roadshow via the iconic Grand Trunk Road, which links a large part of South Asia from Bangladesh to Afghanistan, came despite security threats and drew thousands of Sharif supporters on their way to the provincial capital of Punjab.

"The Supreme Court should do justice to Sharif and restore him", he told AFP.

As news of the boy's death made national headlines, Nawaz Sharif's daughter, Maryam Nawaz, took to Twitter to express grief over the incident and said that the local PML-N leadership had been asked to provide assistance to the grieved family.

A defiant Nawaz Sharif criticised on Thursday the judiciary for forcing him to quit as prime minister, saying it was an "insult" to 200 million people of Pakistan that their elected leader was unceremoniously ousted with a single stroke of pen.

Deposed Pakistani prime minister Nawaz Sharif called Saturday for "a change and revolution" in the country to ensure the sanctity of the vote as he addressed a large gathering of his supporters in his home town of Lahore. "The people should ask them why they ousted Nawaz Sharif when he had done no corruption", he said. "I need your support to ensure respect of the people's vote and civilian supremacy", he said. "There are no allegations of corruption against me".

"May I ask why I was ousted?"

Sharif said he was not seeking restoration but his struggle was to institute "respect for the mandate of the people".

He was greeted by supporters lining up on the both sides of road as he came out of the Punjab House in Islamabad on Wednesday, making it impossible for his motorcade to move. "Promise me that you would do what I tell you", he said.

Kulsoom did not appear in person before the returning officer at the Election Commission of Pakistan's office here and Asif Kirmani and Captain (r) Safdar along with their lawyers filed her papers that also include details of assets owned by her and her family members along with other documents required as per rules.
