Sharad Yadav embarks on 3 day public interaction programme
Senior JD (U) leader and Rajya Sabha member Sharad Yadav on his first day of Bihar tour on Thursday revolted against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and accused him of betraying the public mandate by siding with NDA.
"I still stand with Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) that was given a mandate by 11 crore people in Bihar in the 2015 assembly polls to rule for five years", Yadav told the media after landing at the Patna airport from Delhi.
Addressing a party meeting at Sonepur, Sharad said all "original" functionaries of JD (U) are with him along with the RJD and Congress. "People like Sharad and I formed the party and worked tirelessly for it in the past twenty years".
"I was personally hurt and pained by (the decision)", he said.
In case there is a formal breakaway, both the factions will have to approach the Election Commission to claim the party name and the symbol (arrow), just like the two factions of Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh ahead of Assembly elections in the state.
He further added that entire opposition is disappointed with alliance failure and even some people from NDA didn't like this.
Kapil Mishra, Shankersinh Vaghela and Sharad Yadav: What is common between these three political leaders?
Rift in JD (U) has been evident ever since Nitish Kumar announced breaking up of mahagathbandhan and joining BJP to form new government in Bihar.
Yadav is set to kickstart his Jan Samvad Yatra today and will meet the people of Bihar to discuss the repercussions of the withdrawal of the grand alliance in the state. While no JD (U) leader was present, the local legislator, Ramanuj Prasad of Lalu Yadav's RJD was there.
Yadav will visit almost eight to ten constituencies of Bihar from August 10 to 12 and will hold discussions. Sharad has a few times expresses his disappointment on Nitish's decision of breaking the grand alliance.
"A vote is trust, promises made to people are a trust and if that trust breaks democracy will ruin", said Yadav. MLA, MLC or any MP came to either receive him or express solidarity with the former party president who has been nursing grudges against Bihar Chief Minister ever since he was replaced as JD (U) president by Nitish. First, at some stage, they all went rogue against their own party leadership. JD (U) state chief Vashisht Narain Singh called Yadav's move a "personal initiative". "Congratulations to his boarding a sinking boat", said JD (U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar. We worked tirelessly with Sharad Yadav to raise JD (U).
