PS4 Update 5.0 Reportedly Includes Improved Account Following, 1080p/60fps Twitch Streaming on PS4 Pro
Eurogamer obtained a copy of the release notes, and it seems the biggest takeaway is the ability to stream Twitch in 1080p and 60fps. Update 5.0 will let PlayStation 4 Pro owners stream content out to Twitch at 1080p and 60FPS, among other features. You can already use a Pro for 1080p Remote Play and Share Play. Right now, the only accounts you can follow are verified accounts, which are mostly made up by official game accounts, developers, and popular Youtubers. This feature is now only available for verified accounts, but Sony's documentation wants this feature to "encourage more sharing of content and more interactions". You'll also be able to follow whoever you want without needing a friend request to be verified, and without filling up your friend limit. You can block users, too.
Players will also be able to follow any user - like Twitter or Xbox One. Family accounts will be able to be monitored by more than one parent/guardian acting as the admin. Admins are able to set parental controls on a per-account basis so that each child has different communications, content-viewing and spending limit privileges. To help manage family accounts, there will be a new PC/smartphone web app. Adult accounts can also send requests to each other to join the same family.
The fourth feature Eurogamer highlight is to do with notifications, integrating them into the quick menu, so you don't need to head back out to the PDM to check what that plinging sound was all about. Downloads can also be checked using Quick Menu.
Other additions to the interface include push notifications, additional languages including Czech, Thai, Greek, Vietnamese, Romanian, and Hungarian, and the ability to see spectator comments on screen while you're playing a VR game.
Details about the PlayStation's upcoming firmware version 5.0 have leaked ahead of the software's actual launch, tipping console owners about the features and tweaks they can expect in the near future.
