A U.S. Navy F A-18 Super Hornet takes off from the flight deck of the USS George Washington

The two aircraft - an Iranian QOM-1 and a U.S. F/A-18E Super Hornet - came within 100 feet of one another as the Super Hornet circled above the USS Nimitz, officials said, noting the pilot was forced to make a sudden maneuver to avoid crashing into the drone.

The near-collision marked the "13th unsafe and/or professional interaction between US and Iranian maritime forces" this year, according to the Navy and Central Command statements. However, while the incident ended with no issues, it is concerning that anyone could get a drone or any other aircraft this close to a U.S. Navy fighter jet.

A statement released by the U.S. Naval Forces Central Command said that the small drone's actions were risky and failed to follow global maritime laws and customs.

The drone came within 100 feet below the aircraft and 200 feet to the side of the aircraft.

The jet was still several thousand feet above the Nimitz.

New EU Sanctions against Russian Federation over Crimea Annexation
Russia "resolutely denies any attempts to use it a as an example of alleged negligence of Russian companies", the ministry said. The machines were then illegally sent to a power project and modified locally in Krim, as the Russians call it.

The US used an emergency radio frequency in the immediate area to warn those operating the drone to back away.

Fox News quoted defense officials as saying it was the first time an Iranian drone had interrupted a flight pattern in the Persian Gulf. The Navy deemed the interaction unsafe and unprofessional.

The Super Hornet belongs to Strike Fighter Squadron 147, which is deployed aboard the Nimitz from Naval Air Station Lemoore in California.

On July 25, a patrol vessel of the american navy had fired warning shots against a ship by iranian corps Guards of the islamic revolution, after the latter has approached at least 140 metres.
