A day after a Marine Corps MV-22 Osprey crashed in waters off of Queensland, Australia, after launching from an amphibious assault ship, an Australian hydrographic survey ship located the wreckage of the aircraft, officials said.

The MV-22 is a hybrid-type aircraft that can take off and land as a helicopter but transitions its two engines to fly like an airplane in midflight.

As of Monday, no flight restrictions have been placed on the 24 Ospreys based at Marine Corps Air Station Futenma or other US airbases in the Pacific, Pentagon spokesman Capt. Jeff Davis said.

One of the three Marines believed to have died in an MV-22 Osprey crash off the coast of Australia was a ME native. The next of kin of the three missing Marines have been notified, the military said.
