China warns India of 'serious consequences' over border
An article in the State-run Global Times said, "China will not allow the military standoff between China and India in Doklam to last for too long, and there may be a small-scale military operation to expel Indian troops within two weeks".
Earlier, China had emphatically rejected India's interference in its ongoing boundary dispute with Bhutan in the Doklam area and again urged New Delhi to withdraw unconditionally and end the almost two-month long stand-off.
Talking about how likely it is for this standoff to develop into a fully fledged military conflict, Gokhale said that the conflict is not inevitable because India-China have a tense border problem, which goes back for decades.
Nepal also shares two tri-junction areas with India and China, one of which, the Lipulekh pass, has been the cause of bitter acrimony between Nepal and India, after the latter chose to use it as a Sino-Indian trade route in 2015.
The tensions are occurring between a 3,500km land border with China in the Indian State of Sikkim, reports Reuters.
Meanwhile Chinese official media is keeping up the offensive, with China spending these days briefing other missions. As far as economic strength is concerned, China is one of the leading countries among major contributors and economic partners. We believe that the PLA has made sufficient preparation for military confrontation. China has said that its "restraint has a bottom line" and is ratcheting up rhetoric and ramping up pressure on India to remove its troops from the Doklam region, saying that India-under the pretext of security concerns or protection of Bhutan-has no legal basis to station troops in another's territory.
Sterling slumps as Bank of England cuts growth forecasts Looking ahead, the Bank has made a slight tweak to its GDP (gross domestic product) estimates over a three-year period. Ben Broadbent said the central bank's monetary policy committee (MPC) considers there is a much greater need for this.
The editorial, known for its hard hitting stance on India, said, "The Indian government's move is irresponsible to regional security and is gambling against India's destiny and its people's well-being". "China will take all necessary measures to safeguard its legitimate and lawful rights and interests", the Foreign Ministry said. China cherishes the decade-long peace on the border and wishes not to break it.
Amidst the ongoing crisis between the two countries who are no strangers to border disputes, China has repeatedly invoked the 1890 China-Britain treaty which, the Chinese Foreign Ministry recently said, clearly defines China-India boundary in the Sikkim part of the border. It said that the Modi-government should be aware of China's military power and should not put India in a situation where has no choice but to "annihilate all Indian troops in the border region".
"India, which has stirred up the incident, should bear all the consequences".
China and India have always been suspicious of each other, a legacy of the 1962 border war, India's playing host to exiled Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama and China's close relations with India's regional rival Pakistan.
"It has already been more than a month since the incident, and India is still not only illegally remaining on Chinese territory, it is also repairing roads in the rear, stocking up supplies, massing a large number of armed personnel".
