Spotify is on its way to the Xbox One, new app now being tested
But it seems that Spotify is preparing to release an app for the Xbox One in the near future. Akin to the likes of Netflix, the service instead of offering consumers with movies and television content aims in delivering music content from the both the latest and greatest artists to more indie and obscure groups and individuals.
Now, as several leaks seemingly reveal, it looks like that service is finally coming to the Xbox One.
It's been a long time coming, but we may soon see a Spotify Music app land on the Xbox One. Sources claim that the app is now being tested internally, and will be released soon.
A screenshot shows a post dated 23 June, saying: "This week, Microsoft announced huge news that impacts more than one of these devices". Sony previously had an exclusive on the app for consoles a few years back, but it seems as if that deal has come to an end based on multiple instances of Xbox-related Spotify use from Major Nelson and a posting on a Microsoft portal.
A Spotify for Xbox One app was first spotted earlier this week by reddit users, after it popped up in the activity feed of Xbox community manager Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb.
For those unfamiliar with Spotify, at least on consoles, the application is a popular and premium music streaming app. A Spotify app has been available on Sony's PlayStation 4 since 2015, leaving Xbox owners wondering when they'd be able to stream music through their console.
