Rahul Gandhi pledges to raise Assam flood in Parliament
The Congress strongly condemned the attack on party vice president Rahul Gandhi in Gujarat, allegedly by BJP "goons", saying it was deliberately done to create an atmosphere of fear in the state ahead of the Assembly election. But, some of the Special Protection Group (SPG) personnel who were travelling with Rahul got injured, since they were sitting in the back of the auto.
The incident occurred when Gandhi was on his way to the helipad in Dhanera from Lal Chowk in flood-hit Banaskantha district.
India's main opposition Congress party's second-in-command Rahul Gandhi was attacked by a mob in the western state of Gujarat Friday, police said.
Earlier, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala informed that BJP goons broke Congress VP's vehicle with heavy stones on his way to the helipad after meeting flood victims at Dhanera. The Congress also said that Cement bricks were thrown at the auto.
"Whatever we can do, will do for you", Rahul said while interacting with the villagers.
Residents drew the Congress leader's attention towards the hardship they face due to excessive rainfall and flood like situation in the district.
Gandhi also faced hostile black-flag waving crowd shouting slogans in favour of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his tour of flood-hit Dhanera town, forcing the Congress to cancel a scheduled public meeting.
From Lakhimpur, Rahul Gandhi flew to Silchar to attend the funeral of Congress veteran Santosh Mohan Deb who died on Wednesday. The party has accused BJP "goons" behind the incident. Violence and physical attack have become BJP's culture.
Congress leader Sachin Pilot also lashed out at the BJP on Twitter saying: "What sort of politics is the BJP govt practicing?"
