The US will soon ban Americans from traveling to North Korea.
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson had chose to impose "geographical travel restriction" for North Korea, the officials said, which would make it illegal to use US passports to enter the country.
The U.S. State Department strongly warns Americans against travelling to North Korea, citing "serious risk of arrest and long-term detention".
Leisure travel to North Korea is relatively rare but fairly straightforward; to obtain a tourist visa, travelers have to book onto pre-planned tours that are accompanied by two North Korean guides approved by the secretive regime.
Officials in Hawaii are launching a campaign to help residents plan for a nuclear missile attack from North Korea - much to the dismay of the state's tourism industry. The 22-year-old died June 19 and his death triggered widespread criticism from US officials against the Kim Jong Un-led regime.

The latest travel advisory issued by the Department of State dated May 9, said: "North Korean authorities have detained those who traveled independently and those who were part of organized tours".
And they have it on good authority, having been informed of the ban by the Swedish embassy, which conducts affairs on behalf of the U.S. in Pyongyang.
South Korea also called for restoration of cross-border military and government hotlines that North Korea severed previous year.
The general manager of Koryo Tours said that while specifics of the travel ban remain unclear, what is certain is that no USA citizens will be allowed to visit North Korea for tourism purposes.
"North Korea's missiles and development of weapons of mass destruction are measured as investment and production and support GDP growth", Shin Seung-cheol, an official at the BOK's economic statistics department, told Bloomberg.
At least three Americans remain in North Korean custody - two professors, Kim Hak-Song and Kim Sang-Duk (or Tony Kim), who were both working at the Pyongyang University of Science and Technology (PUST); and Korean-American Kim Dong-Chul, who was sentenced to 10 years of hard labour for spying.
The embassy conducts United States affairs in the country.
In all, about 5,000 Western tourists have visited North Korea each year. The first American to be detained since President Donald Trump took office, he was arrested at the Pyongyang airport in April while trying to fly to China with his wife.
