US Stocks Edge Higher In Early Trade

The tech sector (+0.3%) cruised to its fifth straight advance, as Apple shrugged off yesterday's underperformance to gain 1.4%. The 30-stock index also notched an intraday record.

Shares in retailer Target rose 3.8% after it said comparable sales should show a "modest" increase in the second quarter, the first such rise for five quarters.

Delta Air Lines fell 1.8 percent after reporting a smaller profit than analysts expected. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq ended up 0.2% each.

The S&P climbed 0.6 percent to close at 2,459.27, setting intraday and closing records.

Thursday's action left the Nasdaq composite ahead almost 2% for the week and tracking toward its best weekly finish since late May.

The Dow is up 223.40 points, or 1 percent.

The Nasdaq composite rose 6 points, or 0.1 percent, to 6,267.
