Felipe and Letizia will then be the Queen's quests at a State Banquet at Buckingham Palace.

Both royal couples looked the picture of elegance as they greeted each other on Horse Guards Parade, and the lavish event appeared to go off without a hitch.

All eyes are on Spanish royals King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, who are on a three-day visit to the United Kingdom - the first Spanish state visit there since Felipe's father, Juan Carlos I, visited 31 years ago.

The EU annoyed Britain and Gibraltar in April by suggesting Spain has a right of veto over the territory's post-Brexit relationship with the bloc.

The King of Spain said he is confident his country and Britain can overcome their "differences" over Gibraltar in order to reach a solution that is "acceptable" to both sides.

King Felipe will lay a wreath at the Grave of the Unknown Warrior and the prince will join them on a short tour of the abbey, including the Tomb of Eleanor "Leonor" of Castile - the 13th-Century Spanish princess who married Edward I. The long-line collarless lemon blazer featured a minimal style and textured fabric, and complimented the royal's slimline physique.

Raging wildfires tear through California and force thousands to flee their homes
More than 200 wildfires were burning in the Canadian province of British Columbia, forcing thousands to flee. The next largest wildfire is the Schaeffer Fire burning in Tulare County, about 17 miles north of Kernville.

He said: "What the king has said harks back to a time when the governments in Madrid and London might have made decisions over the heads of the people of Gibraltar".

King Felipe raised the thorny issue as he addressed MPs and peers at the Royal Gallery in the Houses of Parliament, outside which the flag of Gibraltar was on display in Parliament Square.

With a population of around 30,000, Gibraltar was ceded to Britain by Spain under the treaty of Utrecht in 1713.

Security will be tight for the royal carriage procession along The Mall in what will be the first state visit to take place since the terror attacks in Manchester and London.

King Felipe VI, 49, is the only son of Juan Carlos and his wife Sofia of Greece and Denmark.
