Geraint Thomas out of Tour de France with suspected broken collarbone

The climb Australia's Richie Porte third from right follows Britain's Chris Froome wearing the overall leader's

The defending champion, who was attacked by Fabio Aru just as he suffered a mechanical on the last climb, held on for a podium finish at the end of a 181-5km trek in the Jura mountains won by Colombian Rigoberto Uran ahead of France's Warren Barguil.

While Porte's team, BMC Racing, revealed their rider would be taken to hospital following the crash.

Welshman Thomas, second in the general classification to team-mate Chris Froome, crashed on the descent of the Col de la Biche - the first of three Hors category climbs on Sunday.

Fellow Brit Geraint Thomas abandoned the event after sustaining a suspected broken collarbone following a crash in a high-speed descent, organizers said after the race.

Porte was given immediate medical assistance by an ambulance and some minutes later hadn't moved.

The Romelu Lukaku stat worth £75 million to Manchester United
If that is the fee United are set to pay, that would make Lukaku's move the fifth most-expensive in the history of football . And it is that prolific nature that has seen Lukaku being linked with every top club in the world, especially Chelsea .

"He had a bit more fear than pain but for the moment it's reassuring as he was conscious and that's the most important thing", said Florence Pommerie, one of the Tour doctors.

Overall, Froome leads Aru by 18 seconds and Romain Bardet by 51 as two-times victor Alberto Contador of Spain cracked on the last climb and dropped out of contention. "We hope both guys are both okay", said Froome's Sky team on Twitter. "He was asking for his helmet and his glasses".

"I want to say thank to you Richie and thank you to the rest of the group for not taking advantage". "Job done!" Like Quintana he came home 1min 15sec behind Uran and now sits sixth at 1:44, with Quintana remaining eighth but now out to 2:13 behind Froome.

Porte's crash was the most dramatic as he clipped the grass verge on the inside of a bend on the lightning quick descent down the fearsome Mont du Chat less than 25km from the finish.

Thomas' crash was his fourth of a race he led for four days after winning the opening time trial, something which already feels a long time ago.
