Bethanie Mattek-Sands taken to hospital in agony as knee buckles at Wimbledon
Mattek-Sands was undergoing scans in a private hospital in the southwest London suburb after a horrifying injury to her right knee that left her flat out on court screaming in pain on Thursday.
Alexander Prior says in an email on Friday that Mattek-Sands, a 32-year-old American, "is now undergoing more scans this morning".
Her husband Justin Sands and Cirstea both comforted the stricken player as she lay on the court waiting for an ambulance to arrive.
The doubles specialist was given lengthy treatment by paramedics including oxygen, but her screams could still be heard on nearby courts.
"I remember I heard a pop in my leg and everything went slow after that", she said from her hospital room in Wimbledon.
Although the injury at first looked to be a serious ACL tear - not any less painful but a fairly common injury for athletes, it later became obvious the 32-year-old had dislocated her kneecap, which she has now confirmed. I want to let everyone know that there are times that even I'm upset and down, but I want to stay strong and get through these times.
RED Unveils $1600 Holographic Smartphone We can't help but think of Amazon's ill-fated Fire Phone from a few years ago , but since this is from RED , we're optimistic. Most importantly though, due to display production limitations, the company will not be able to fill all orders on time.
Cirstea ran to her aid as the umpire called for paramedics before Mattek-Sands was carried away on a stretcher.
While Bethanie Mattek-Sands no longer in the running for the Wimbledon Women's Singles is bad enough, she also ends any chances of going for a Grand Slam Doubles win with her partner Lucie Safarova. "I've never seen anything like this, but it wasn't in a normal position", reported the Express.
"I knew it was either dislocated or broken, and at that point, I kind of freaked out", she said on FacebookLive.
"I was in pain, I thought they were going to try to adjust my leg". And, yeah, I panicked a little bit, as well. She said both she and her opponent asked the umpire to move their match to another court just two games in because they felt the surface was unsafe.
The All England Club said that a "qualified ambulance technician" was on the scene within a minute, but that did not stop the drama.
"There are sports where you see something's happening, and you see the help straight away".
