According to a statement from local police, a woman had placed a call to 911 at 4:47 a.m.to report a stabbing in the area.
Though officers have not released a motive, neighbors say the woman was depressed over the recent death of her own father.
Some neighbors in the small, largely Hispanic neighborhood said they had no clue anything was amiss in the home until police mobbed the scene Thursday morning.
The mother is the primary person of interest in the stabbings, but so far, according to Pihera, authorities have no idea why she would stab her own family. He described the children as "great, happy, participating in our programs... they just jumped right in".
She might have been in the house with her dead family for several hours, officials said. Jim Hollandsworth, a spokesman for the project, said the Spanish-speaking family had only been in the community for a few months.
