India-China War Again? More Tension At Sikkim Border, Beijing Warns Indian Army To Withdraw From Doka La

The Chinese government spokesperson however accused India of using Bhutan as a "cover up" for the "illegal entry" into the Doklam area over which Bhutan has lodged a protest with the Chinese government.

The confrontation - at a tri-junction where the borders of China, India and Bhutan meet - is the longest between the two sides in recent times.

China earlier claimed that it was India that had ignored global law and interfered with Beijing's construction activities in the Chinese territory.

Highlighting Indias concerns, the MEA statement said the road "construction would represent a significant change of status quo with serious security implications for India". "The India-China boundary in the Sikkim section is well demarcated".

Observers say China's repeated invitations to India to join the BRI highlights its own anxieties over the adverse impact of New Delhi's lack of support to the multi-billion dollar investments in South Asia as it would deny access to India's market consisting over 1.2 billion people. Doka La is the Indian name for the region which Bhutan recognises as Dokalam, while China claims it as part of its Donglang region. Tension has risen between India and China over the current standoff between their armies in Doklam (Donglong) in the Sikkim sector.

Some reports suggest that China had earlier pushed back Bhutanese troops in earlier incursions.

Beijing- China will have no choice but resort to "military" option if India "refuses to listen", a Chinese expert has warned over the festering border row. As the tiny Himalayan Kingdom was not party to the 1890 agreement between Britain and China, the dispute was between China and Bhutan over where their common border lies.

The daily also downplayed Modis visit, saying it was "not a historic event, as some media outlets in India boasted, because of the limited results the meeting has achieved".

The Army Chief was in Gangtok last Thursday in the wake of a stand-off between Indian troops and Chinese army.

As India and China continue their stand-off, India Today reports on how a Chinese strategic expert; Liu Zongyi, a senior fellow of Shanghai Institutes for International Studies believed Delhi was emboldened to tackle China following the meeting between Prime Minister Modi and US President Trump. Beijing long responded cautiously to the burgeoning Indo-US partnership, hoping to woo New Delhi through offers of economic collaboration and fearing a harsh response would only drive New Delhi into US imperialism's eager embrace. He, however, said the line for diplomatic communication between India and China is "open and smooth". It is under the effective jurisdiction of China and it is without any dispute.
