Suspected gunman killed after injuring multiple people at New York City hospital

A staff member quoted by News 4 said that the hospital is under lockdown as police are evacuating the people present inside floor by floor.

- A doctor who opened fire at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center in New York Friday afternoon is dead, police said. Some of the victims are doctors.

He then apparently killed himself.

Gunfire broke out at 2:50 p.m. ET inside the Bronx Lebanon Hospital, according to the NYPD. At one point, several cops with their weapons drawn were seen on the roof of the hospital. The Times also reports that the shooter is a tall, thin man wearing a lab coat, citing an NYPD radio transmission.

The Type 1 Incident Management team is now overseeing fire suppression on the eastern side of the Brian Head fire from Panguitch. Investigators say it was sparked on June 17 near the Brian Head resort by someone using a torch tool to burn weeds.

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio was briefed on the unfolding situation, according to a tweet from the mayor's office.

Video images from the scene showed hospital employees and others coming out of the hospital's main entrance, their hands in the air, and crossing the street toward awaiting police officers.

It is not clear when he left the hospital.

The hospital is around 120-year-old and claims that there are almost 1,000 beds spread across multiple units. Check back for updates.
