According to the criminal complaint, Randolph initially told investigators she was inside her rural home west of Fort Worth folding laundry and watching TV on May 26 while the children were playing on the enclosed back porch.
She said she realized the children were missing after about a half hour of silence and discovered them unresponsive inside the auto. The children were unresponsive and Randolph said she broke a window to gain entry.
Authorities in North Texas have arrested a 25-year-old woman for the deaths a month ago of her two children found in a hot auto outside their home.
Authorities say she told them she left the children in the vehicle, smoked marijuana and went to sleep.
Authorities were alerted to the incident just after 4 p.m., a news release said, when the temperature outside had reached 96 degrees.
Ms. Randolph was booked into the Parker County Jail on Friday. Her bond has not been set.
Sheriff's deputies on the scene asked Randolph how long the children had been inside the vehicle.
In a final interview with investigators Friday, Randolph described an entirely different timeline for what happened that day - one that began much earlier in the afternoon than she had previously admitted. Authorities say that the suspect admitted to locking the toddlers inside her vehicle on objective to teach them a lesson. Authorities later determined that the children died from extreme heat exposure.
The 25-year-old told investigators she'd been trying to teach her two-year-old daughter a lesson when she refused to come out of the auto when she was called. A sheriff's spokeswoman did not immediately return a call Saturday afternoon, and jail records do not list an attorney for Randolph.
The group advises parents to put something they will need by their child's vehicle seat - a purse, wallet or phone, for example - as an additional reminder to check the back.
The children were identified as a 16 month-old boy and a 2-year-old girl.
Sheriff Fowler originally said on May 26, that any incidents involving any child are hard ones, but this call was especially heartbreaking with the unfortunate deaths of the two children.
