Trump lawyer says President isn't under investigation, despite tweets

21 June 2017, 07:13 | Ruben Fields

After President Trump's senior advisor and son-in-law Jared Kushner was reported to have discussed setting up a secret and secure communications channel with Moscow during a meeting with Russia's ambassador to Washington, his representatives started contacting high-powered criminal lawyers about representing him, according to a report in The New York Times. "It depends on what the meaning of the word "is" is", Clinton said.

The president wrote on Twitter Friday: "I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director!"

"Those reports in The Washington Post were false", Sekulow said.

As acting attorney general in matters related to the presidential election - due to Attorney General Jeff Sessions' recusal - Rosenstein has oversight over Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who The Washington Post reported has expanded the Russian Federation inquiry to include a probe of whether Trump obstructed justice. Trump needs to understands that this would be a political disaster.

"That's incorrect", Sekulow responded. "But it makes flawless sense".

But no one has denied the substance of the Post story. The newspaper stood by it.

Sukelow subsequently did tell Wallace that Trump was being investigated by the Special Counsel when he was asked, in reference to Trump's tweet, if the President thought Rosenstein had done anything wrong.

The two leaders of the panel have both been frustrated that key witnesses have testified before the Senate intelligence committee - rather than their panel - and both have warned that Comey in particular could face a subpoena if he does not agree to testify before Judiciary. "I don't think it serves him well", former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, a Trump supporter, on ABC's "This Week", adding that the President was right to be infuriated by "this whole Russian Federation baloney".

Trump delays effective date of travel ban amid court battle
But the reason for his high court trip Thursday is purely ceremonial, to mark Justice Neil Gorsuch's ascension to the bench. State Attorney General Douglas Chin on Monday discussed the ruling by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals affirming U.S.

Himes says the notion the investigation has been going on too long "is just crazy" and "we're talking about the very core of our democracy here".

In another sign of the gravity of the situation, Trump's legal team blitzed Sunday talk shows to contradict the President's tweet Friday where he said he is already under investigation.

His first big case in Washington in 1987 was defending religious group Jews for Jesus, helping them defeat a rule that prohibited the distribution of religious literature at Los Angeles International Airport.

But it gets even more confusing.

Republicans say they are turning down offers to work for a chief executive whose volatile temperament makes them nervous, and are asking headhunters if their reputations could suffer permanent damage from serving Trump.

While aides have advised Trump to stay off Twitter, the president continued to weigh in Sunday as he spent the weekend at Camp David, the government-owned presidential retreat in Maryland.

President Trump is now in the grip of this situation. "The tape will speak for itself; you said he is being investigated". "For about 30 minutes".

It seems to me largely semantics, but the is-he-or-isn't-he argument stems from the latest push by the White House.
