Trump tells senators that health bill should be 'more generous' than 'mean' House version

AP sources: Trump tells senators House health bill 'mean'

His new stance is quite a distance from the comments he made in the Rose Garden of the White House after the bill passed on May 4.

Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn had a colorful way to describe the secretive process of crafting a healthcare bill during an interview on Monday.

Senate GOP leaders are now writing their healthcare bill, though Democrats and even some fellow Republicans have not seen any of the legislative text.

Senate Republicans are winnowing down policy options in search of 51 votes to advance House-passed legislation this summer.

"Something has to be done soon", said Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., according to the report. They spoke on condition of anonymity to reveal a closed-door conversation.

Some who will help determine whether the GOP can pass a bill without any Democratic support say they're missing a chance to guide and shape it.

Two other congressional GOP officials confirmed that the general descriptions of Trump's words were accurate.

Capitol Hill sources, who asked not to be named, said President Trump described the version of the legislation that passed the House last month as "mean".

Sounds a lot like complaints from Republicans when a Democrat-controlled Congress passed the Affordable Care Act containing volumes of rules and guidelines nearly no one - including Democrats - bothered to read.

The European champion opens its Group A program on Sunday against Mexico in Kazan . Russia's coach suggested it was an advantage to have such a pep talk.

That's exactly why Americans can't accept that the Republicans are concealing this bill.

Though only snippets have leaked, the GOP leader seems to be trying to appease more moderate GOP senators by delaying the House's 2020 cutoff for the provision that has provided more than 11 million Americans with health care coverage.

The measure's final version reflected a compromise by conservative leader Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., and centrist Rep. Tom MacArthur, R-N.J. That House bill was widely criticized for letting states seek waivers from insurance protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

"This is a great plan, and this is a repeal and a replace of Obamacare, make no mistake about it", Mr. Trump said at the time.

"Many of you have been waiting seven years to cast this vote", Ryan said to the scores of Republican House members present. "Many of you are here because you pledged to cast this vote".

Trump's comments, during a White House lunch with a group of 15 GOP senators from across the ideological spectrum, signaled that he may be willing to embrace a less-aggressive revision of the Affordable Care Act than Republicans have previously promised.

"But, what I will say is he does believe, and I think, we can improve upon the House product ... and get a bill that is more workable for the American people", Thune added.

Just last weekend, Trump used his golf club in Bedminster, N.J., to hold a fundraising event for MacArthur that netted $800,000.

The positive comments about the Senate plan tracks with Trump telling reporters during the meeting that the Senate should spend more on the bill to make it "generous, kind (and) with heart". "I'm exhausted of Republicans promising they would repeal Obamacare and then negotiating to keep it".
