Those opposed to Islamic law were facing off with counter-protesters from behind police barriers.

ACT for America held similar rallies Saturday in more than two dozen cities across the country. They organized the march claiming that Sharia goes against human rights and democracy while stating that it was done to protect women and children who had been mutilated or worse under Sharia law.

In Seattle, ACT supporters were outnumbered by counter-protesters at a rally that was moved from Portland, Oregon. Throughout her long career as a professional fear-monger, Gabriel has tried to portray everyday Muslims as potential terrorists who want to overthrow the US government and replace it with Sharia law.

More than 100 United States religious and civil liberties groups denounced the rallies as disingenuously fear-mongering, and condemned the protests in a letter to the mayors of host cities.

A similar scene played out in a park near a NY courthouse, where counter-protesters sounded air-horns and banged pots and pans in an effort to silence an anti-Sharia rally. Gathering at the nearby Occidental Square Park, anti-racist demonstrators marched to City Hall where the bigots were holding their rally.

The Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks hate groups, says ACT is the nation's largest anti-Muslim group. The only casualty of being in the middle of physical escalations between protestors & troopers. My shirt. It said sharia justifies the oppression of women and homosexuality, and advocate female genital mutilation. But such efforts have failed to stymie concerns about Sharia laws among people and Muslims have seen a rise in both hostile dialogue and attacks.

The Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MN), among other groups, helped to organize a counter protest.

Seven people were arrested at the Capitol in St. Paul, the Minnesota State Patrol tweeted from its official account.

The March Against Sharia Law happened in nearly 30 cities across the United States on Saturday, including in Kansas City at Washington Square Park at Crown Center.

A national group is planning an "anti-Islamic-law" protest Saturday in Roseville. But the chanting crowd outside forced Capitol security to escort some of the rally attendees from the building for their own safety. The group said it supports the rights of those subject to Shariah law and opposes discrimination. The anti-Sharia demonstrators yelled, "Commie scum!"

A few miles away, other Atlantans held a counter-protest and food drive. At least 25 rallies were held around the U.S. Scholars say there's little to no threat to US democracy from Islamic law.

In San Bernardino, police spokeswoman Eileen Hards told a reporter, "There's an anti-Trump, a pro-Trump, anti-extremists, so there are a variety of messages here".
