Indian troops claim killing LeT commander in Kashmir

According to a local English daily Greater Kashmir, six policemen including a Station House Officer were killed in a militant attack in southern Achabal area. The policemen had been attacked in south Kashmir's Anantnag district.

Separate clashes in Indian-administered Kashmir killed 10 people - five police officers, a soldier, two civilians and two suspected rebels - authorities said on Friday, as violence in the troubled region continues to spike.

A police official said security forces during search of debris of a house that was damaged in yesterday's gunfight between militants and security forces in Arwani village recovered bodies of three LeT militants. Army has been called out to undertake a combing operation in the area.

The protests against the civilian killings erupted shortly after Friday prayers and were going on when reports last came in, the officials said. However, no bodies have been recovered so far.

Nasir Wani had joined the militancy past year and was involved in militant activities in the area.

Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba has claimed the responsibility for the attack. Srinagar District Magistrate Farooq Ahmad Lone said Rainawari, Khanyar, Nowhatta, MR Gunj and Safa Kadal were closed to maintain law and order, Greater Kashmir reported. Mattoo was killed along with two associates in an encounter with security forces in neighbouring Arwani village on Friday.

Earlier on Thursday evening, another civilian Nazir Ahmad was killed in Rangreth area of Srinagar, when SSB personnel opened fire at protestors pelting stones.

Citing how the security arrangement has been strengthened also keeping in mind the annual Amarnath Yatra, Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Rajiv R. Bhatnagar said, "For the Amarnath Yatra, we have made the comprehensive arrangements".
