Bill Cosby leaves the Montgomery County Courthouse during his sexual assault trial Friday
Bill Cosby's chief accuser is thanking prosecutors for taking her case after a jury failed to agree on a verdict.
Lawyers for Andrea Constand issued a statement on her behalf Saturday. "We are confident that these proceedings have given a voice to the many victims who felt powerless and silenced".
The judge declared a mistrial after jurors deadlocked on the charges after six days.
The prosecutor, Kevin Steele, says he will retry Bill Cosby. The charges against Cosby remain in place.
Allred represents Kelly Johnson, who accused Cosby of engaging in sexual misconduct with her in 1996, and who was the first witness called by prosecutors at Cosby's trial as a so-called "prior bad acts" witness. Overtly arrogant, collaborating with the district attorney.
At a hearing, the jury said it could not reach a unanimous verdict on any of the counts being faced by the TV entertainer.
David Harris, a professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law who specialises in criminal justice, said the hung jury did not mean that a civil jury would clear Cosby of liability. Heinously and exploitatively ambitious. Nearly 60 women claim that one man sexually assaulted all of them in the same way, but that one man denies those claims. Steele, in a news conference following the announcement of the mistrial, said the process will take another 120 days before the next trial can begin.
Allison doesn't think the mistrial is the win for Cosby that his spokesperson has declared it to be. Camille Cosby's full statement read, " How do I describe the district attorney? Constand told her story of the case; her mother spoke of her experience; another woman took to the stand to allege that Cosby had sexually assault her; a toxicologist testified that Cosby, by his own admission, had given Constand enough medication to make her drowsy, as she claimed.
Perhaps the jury would have been convinced by something like a video of the encounter, a drug test that showed exactly what drugs Constand had in her system, or evidence of Cosby's bodily fluids on Constand's body. We commend those prosecutors who raise awareness that one of the hallmarks of drug-related sexual assaults is the affect the drug has on the victim's memory and the ability to recall and were nonetheless willing to present this evidence to the jury. Cosby is charged with drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand at his home outside Philadelphia in 2004.
Manchester bomber's brother released by police Grande arrived back in the United Kingdom on Friday morning ahead of the One Love Manchester concert on Sunday. Grande returned to Britain on Friday ahead of the One Love Manchester concert on to benefit victims.
Constand returned to her parents' home in Canada three months later. His lawyer says Cosby and Constand were lovers sharing a consensual sexual encounter.
A Pennsylvania judge declared a mistrial Saturday after a jury was deadlocked on sexual-assault charges against Bill Cosby, the comic legend whose legacy as a promoter of wholesome values has been tarnished by a years-long sex and drugging scandal.
Cosby's defense lawyers, however, argued that Constand's account could not be trusted after they pointed to numerous discrepancies in her statements to police in 2005, when she first reported the alleged incident almost a year later.
A decade later, another district attorney reopened the investigation after his lurid deposition became public, and dozens of women came forward against one of the most beloved stars in all of show business.
Musical artist and producer Dready tweeted "Guilty or not, this trial will be a dark cloud over Bill Cosby's whole career forever".
From defense attorney Brian McMonagle: "There were no winners here but like the song goes you don't always get what you want but if you try sometimes. you get what you need".
While Gloria Allred is being slammed by some critics, Bill Cosby's accusers are getting support from many people in the entertainment industry.
McMonagle objected in court to the panel's repeated requests to review testimony, saying it suggested some jurors were trying to coerce other jurors in an attempt to bring an end to the deadlock.
