Alexandria Va. A top House Republican Steve Scalise of Louisiana was shot Wednesday at a congressional baseball practice

"Their response quickly contained what could have become a deadly situation and saved any lives today", the Capitol Police Board said in a statement.

ABC News reported that House Speaker Paul Ryan also expressed his appreciation for Bailey and Griner during a speech in the House chamber on Wednesday.

"Most importantly, we are forever grateful for the heroism of Special Agents Crystal Griner and David Bailey, who saved the lives of everyone at the baseball field that morning, including Steve's", Scalise's wife, Jennifer, said in the statement.

Griner and Special Agent David Bailey engaged the gunman and shot him dead.

Brooks said he took off his belt and he and another congressman applied a tourniquet to try to slow the bleeding.

"I've been in regular contact with some of Matt's family members and look forward to visiting Matt".

Six victims were hurt during the shooting, including Majority Whip Steve Scalise, who is in critical condition after undergoing surgery.

Only members of House and Senate leadership have security details that also travel with them back to their home districts.

Deputy AG: No Plans to Fire Special Counsel Robert Mueller
The revelation came after Ruddy was at the White House on Monday for a meeting with Chief Strategist Steve Bannon. Donald Trump believes that he can make the investigation go away if he fires Mueller .

"Her heroic actions yesterday don't surprise me in the least", Robinson said.

Richmond said he saw Griner and Bailey nearly weekly when they fly home to Louisiana with Scalise. We have freedoms that many on this globe wish they would have, and you took those freedoms and tried to take lives.

"I know as sure as I'm standing here right now that there's no way we would have lived through that", Rep. Mike Bishop, R-Michigan, told "CBS Evening News" anchor Scott Pelley. Jeff Flake, R-Arizona, sought safety.

So are we, and add this week's Durham Grit Award to his accolades.

Congressional staffer Zack Barth, who was shot during the incident, has also been released from the hospital, according to a family spokesperson.

The Capitol Police officers present at the fateful GOP congressional baseball practice this week are being hailed as heroes for killing the left-wing sociopath who sprayed bullets onto the field.

Reaction is coming in from Washington D-C to Jefferson City following the shooting at a ball field in Alexandria, Virginia Wednesday morning.
