UFC Hall of Famer Matt Hughes Airlifted Following Truck Collision With Train

Former UFC champ Matt Hughes involved in train crash, airlifted to hospital

It's not clear exactly what state he is in, but his family is headed to meet him, per White.

This afternoon, UFC czar Dana White announced that Hughes was involved in a collision with a moving train near his home in IL.

"Apparently he has head trauma".

The former welterweight champion was airlifted to a medical facility.

The crash took place just south of Raymond, Ill., which is 12 miles north of Hughes' home in Hillsboro.

Illinois State Police are investigating an accident that left a local MMA star seriously injured.

The former UFC Welterweight Champion last competed at UFC 135 in September 2011, the now retired fighter was knocked out by Josh Koscheck that night. White, who spoke to ESPN after hearing news of the accident, said that Hughes was driving a truck that collided with a train.

Hughes, 43, was a two-time All-American wrestler at Eastern Illinois before transitioning to mixed martial arts after college.

The UFC sent their prayers to Hughes and his family via their official Twitter account. St-Pierre got his revenge two years later at UFC 65, beating Hughes by TKO.
