Soccer-Qatar win over South Korea gives relief to World Cup 2022 hosts

Son Heung-min of South Korea dribbles past Mohammed Musa of Qatar during the teams&apos World Cup qualifying match at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha

Heung-Min Son's preparations for the 2017-18 Premier League season look set to be disrupted after the Tottenham Hotspur striker suffered an arm injury while representing South Korea during a dramatic 3-2 World Cup qualifying loss to Qatar on Tuesday (13 June) night.

Team Korea answered with a goal from Ki Sung-yueng in the 62nd-minute, and Hwang Hee-chan leveled the score eight minutes later.

Uli Stielike's side, who now sit second in Group A in the third round of AFC World Cup qualification, do not play again until August, when they host Iran and travel to Uzbekistan.

Iran just clinched its berth for the World Cup with 20 points.

South Korea, chasing their ninth consecutive World Cup appearance, will host Iran on August 31 and face Uzbekistan in Tashkent on September 5 to close out the qualifying stage. Korea has now lost three of the group qualification matches and remains winless in away games.

Steve Kerr, Tyronn Lue Both Were Confused By Draymond Green's Technical Foul
The All-Star forward said after the game that he knew the first technical was not his. "They messed that one up bad", Green said. Instead, the only history that can be made from this point on is by Cleveland , and only if the Cavs win the next three games.

The technical committee is due to meet as early as Thursday, with the agenda likely to be dominated by discussions over Stielike, KFA officials said.

"We are the players representing the country", Lee Keun-ho said after the match. But China, led by 2006 World Cup-winning coach Marcello Lippi, scored its own penalty in the 68th when Gao Lin converted. It was announced on Twitter that Qatar Football Association boss Hamad Bin Khalifa Bin Ahmed Al-Thani was "surprised" by Fossati's remarks and would only make a final decision after speaking to the Uruguayan.

Asked if he would consider his position, the German said it was not up to him. Japan lie just one point ahead of both Saudi Arabia and Australia, their final two opponents in what is shaping up to be a blockbuster finish to Group B. Since Iran is the leader in the group with six wins and two ties, it'll be a tough match for Korea.

In Group A, South Korea has work to do to reach a ninth successive World Cup after losing in Doha. Only the top two teams from each of Group A and B qualify automatically for next year's World Cup in Russian Federation, while the third-placed sides go into a play-off series.
