The US said economic and diplomatic pressure would continue to be applied to North Korea

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Monday ordered mass production of a medium-range ballistic missile successfully tested a day earlier that is capable of reaching several US bases in the region.

The council statement, similar to previous condemnations, said North Korea's "illegal ballistic missile activities are significantly contributing to its development of nuclear weapons delivery systems and are greatly increasing tension in the region and beyond".

South Korea and the United States of America will find it harder to detect solid-fuel missile launches in advance by reconnaissance satellites because launch preparation is much shorter than for liquid fuel.

Nearly a month ago, Washington began discussions with China on strengthening United Nations sanctions.

The Security Council statement emphasized "the vital importance" of North Korea "immediately showing honest commitment to denuclearization through concrete action".

Tuesday's video conference, which lasted for almost two hours, came as the North has carried out eight ballistic missile launches this year alone, with the most recent on May 14th and 21st.

Last Friday, North Korea's deputy U.N. ambassador Kim In Ryong told U.N. correspondents that the government will rapidly strengthen its nuclear strike capability as long as the United States maintains its "hostile policy" toward the country.

Montana political candidate allegedly 'body slams' Guardian reporter
House seat amid uncertainty in Washington over President Donald Trump's agenda and his handling of the country's affairs. Audio of the encounter posted by the Guardian , a British newspaper, to YouTube confirmed the altercation.

It said North Korea will closely watch how South Korea's "confrontation hysteria" would develop.

"We urge North Korea to not do anything to again violate U.N. Security Council resolutions", Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in a statement posted on the Foreign Ministry's website on Tuesday.

The test Sunday involved a medium-range ballistic missile that has a shorter range than others fired by the communist regime in recent months, the White House said.

Solid-fuel missiles have their fuel loaded before being moved into place, allowing them to be launched faster and with more secrecy.

North Korea's often-stated goal is to flawless a nuclear warhead that it can put on a missile capable of hitting Washington or other USA cities. "This is something which tramples on the global community's effort to resolve the matter peacefully and a challenge to the world".

The Trump administration also has pressed China, North Korea's closest ally, to rein in Pyongyang.
