Thompson takes early lead at Kingsmill Championship

Lexi Thompson is playing in her third tournament since losing a playoff in the ANA Inspiration for being penalized four strokes for a rules violation spotted by a TV viewer

Lexi Thompson has bounced back from what has been a hard few weeks by taking the opening round lead at the LPGA's Kingsmill Championship in Virginia.

Getting back to action after almost a month, Indian golfer Aditi Ashok was sailing fine till a bogey finish derailed her first round at the Kingsmill Championship in Williamsburg on Thursday.

Thompson is one shot clear of fellow countrywomen Gerina Piller, Brittany Lincicome and Angel Yin.

Thompson, who came under scrutiny from the golfing world following the penalty she received at the ANA Inspiration, fired a six-under round of 65 to take a one-shot lead in just her second start since the controversy at the year's first major.

Thompson played her opening nine in even par with a birdie on No. 11 and a bogey on No. 17, then birdied No. 1 and Nos.

But she steadied on the back nine with successive birdies at the 15th and 16th holes. "I hit some great shots and rolled a few good putts, so (it) definitely helps out my confidence".

That kind of play isn't going to get her another Kingsmill trophy and it may end up sidelining her for the weekend.

Suzuki launches the all-new DZIRE in India
Maruti Suzuki, together with its suppliers, has invested over Rs 1,000 crore for the development of the all-New Dzire. The new Dzire looks more promising and elegantly designed inside out as compared to the current generation.

She did it by continuing the torrid play she displayed on her second nine Thursday. She said she hit some fairways, some greens, and made some longer putts. "It's something that we feed off each other with".

With a day to reflect on her sky diving debut, Thompson called it "an unbelievable experience".

"I don't really look at the rankings myself", Ko said. She added, "Supporting the SEAL Legacy Foundation is my No. 1, and just the military in general". But the only way I would jump out of a perfectly good plane is with a SEAL on my back. "Words can't describe the feeling".

South Korean-born New Zealander Lydia Ko, trying to hang onto the world number one ranking, shared fifth on 67 with Australia s Sarah Jane Smith and Italy s Giulia Molinaro. I was struggling with my yardages a little bit. "The girls are playing great, so I know that I need to try and keep up, and to be in contention, I need to make a lot of birdies out there".

Ko posted five birdies and one bogey in the opening round. "The greens are rolling phenomenal".

"I have been working on a lot of different aspects this year and my game feels good", Aditi told TOI on the eve of the $1.3m event. "Just happy to be under par and looking forward to tomorrow".

Lincicome's five-birdie, no-bogey 66 was her best round since mid-March.
