25 great white sharks spotted off Southern California coast

A sheriff's helicopter crew warned a group of paddle-boarders to get out of the ocean after spotting more than a dozen great white sharks along the Southern California coast.

Shark sightings are not uncommon in California, but attacks are rare.

Along with the O.C. Sheriff's Department, authorities at Camp Pendleton urged beachgoers to steer clear of the water.

The San Onofre beach was closed briefly following the attack and visitors were prohibited from swimming, surfing or diving along the coast about a mile north and south of San Onofre Beach.

Advisory signs were posted throughout a 1.5 mile stretch of the beach where sharks have been sighted, from Grenada Avenue to 72nd Place. She is recovering from wounds to her upper thigh. Doctors are hopeful the injured - Leeanne Ericson, a mother of three - will walk again. "Her spirits are good and she was happy to have family with her".
